Introducing Beautifully Imperfect: a series on the messy, real, and hopeful path to sustainability

Sustainability is rarely a straight path. It’s full of experimentation, trade-offs, and lessons learned along the way. Yet, too often, we get stuck in the pursuit of perfection—waiting until we have all the answers before taking action.

That’s why I created Beautifully Imperfect—a blog series that celebrates the real, messy, and often nonlinear journey of making sustainability a reality. Through candid, conversational interviews, I explore the experiences of three groups driving change:

  • Sustainability professionals striving to turn sustainability into a core business practice.

  • Design practitioners using their craft to drive the sustainability transition.

  • Business leaders working to transform their organizations into forces for good.

Rather than focusing only on big wins and polished success stories, this series highlights the behind-the-scenes reality—the pivotal moments, the roadblocks, the imperfect first steps, and the small wins that fuel big change.

Why This Matters

Sustainability isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about starting, learning, and continuously moving forward. My hope is that these conversations inspire you to take action—however small—because the most important step is the next one.

What to Expect

Each interview follows a conversational Q&A format, allowing the interviewee’s personality and journey to shine. We’ll explore:

✅ How they got started with sustainability

✅ The challenges and tensions they’ve faced along the way

✅ The small, imperfect steps that made a difference

✅ The support systems that help them keep going

✅ Advice for others who want to take action

I hope this series offers a humble, pragmatic, and hopeful perspective—reminding us all that sustainability isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress.
